First Ear Piercing: What You Should Know

Your first ear piercing experience is a moment to celebrate. Whether you’re sharing this milestone with a family member or a friend, here are some tips for a stress-free first-time ear piercing.

The two most important factors to consider when planning any ear piercing are where to have your piercing done and how long it will take to heal.

At Inverness, we are committed to making sure your ear piercing experience is the best it can be by providing the safest, most technologically-advanced ear piercing system available.* The Inverness Ear Piercing System is used in retail stores, salons, jewelry stores, department stores, body piercing shops, pharmacies and doctors offices in over 40 countries around the world. Find the closest location near you using our Store Locator. People outside the U.S. and Canada can find a location by contacting our Authorized Global partner in their home country.

Once you choose a location, the procedure itself is fairly quick. When you arrive at your location, you will be asked to choose the piercing earring you want from a selection of styles in a variety of metal choices. Your piercer will then explain the piercing process and how to care for your newly pierced ears. You won’t need to plan your entire day around your piercing, but we do recommend saving some time to celebrate after!

To help decide the best time of year to have your ears pierced, you should know how long it takes for your piercing to heal and which activities to avoid during your healing period.  The average healing time is 6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks for a cartilage piercing. For tips & more information about what to expect after you have your ears pierced, watch our aftercare video or visit our website to view our Aftercare Tips & Timeline.

Finally, for your peace of mind, it’s important to know that most people describe the Inverness piercing process as “virtually painless.” Why is that? First, our piercing earrings are designed with ultra-thin piercing posts and a finely-honed piercing tip to help the piercing earring glide easily through the earlobe or outer cartilage. Unlike loud piercing guns that shoot spring-loaded piercing earrings through the tissue, our hand-pressured piercing instrument is smooth and quiet. It pierces your ears and attaches our patented Safety Back™ in one easy step.

We hope these tips will help you have a happy first ear piercing experience.
