One of the most important steps when getting your ears pierced is the aftercare. Regardless of whether this is your first, third or fourth piercing, it’s important to follow your ear piercing aftercare instructions carefully to prevent infection and ensure your piercing heals properly.
Inverness offers ear piercing cleaning solution that is specially formulated to help clean and soothe your newly-pierced ears without the drying or chapping that can come from using plain old rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
How to Care for Your New Piercing
Before touching your piercing or earrings, always wash your hands well with soap and water. During your healing period, we recommend cleaning the front and back of your newly-pierced ears and piercing earrings 3 times a day using CLEAN HANDS and a fresh cotton swab soaked in Inverness ear care solution. Gently rotate your earrings 3 times after applying ear care solution.
It’s important to keep your piercing clean at all times, so if you swim or play sports, be sure to rinse your ears carefully and reapply ear care solution after such your activity. If you use hair spray or other products, be sure to clean your piercing and earrings carefully to avoid hair product build up on your earrings.
How Long Will It Take for My Piercing to Heal?
For earlobe piercings, you can expect about 6 weeks of healing time before you can switch out your piercing earrings to new earrings. For the next 6 months, do not go longer than 24 hours without an earring or your piercing may close. For cartilage piercings, the average healing time is 12 weeks for the next 6 months after your healing period is complete, you’ll want to wear an earring 24/7 or your piercing could close.
