New Piercing Care Tips to Avoid Complications

At Inverness, we are committed to providing the safest and gentlest ear piercing possible. But what happens after the piercing process is over? Here is some ear piercing aftercare advice to help get you through the healing period.

How Long?

Aftercare for an ear piercing is determined by the piercing location. The average healing time is 6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 week for a cartilage piercing. To ensure safe healing, we strongly recommend that you leave your piercing earrings in for the and follow your aftercare instructions for the entire healing period.

In addition, here are some important aftercare tips:

Keep it Clean

Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching your ears or earrings. We can’t stress this enough: keeping your hands and anything that comes in contact with your piercing clean is extremely important during the healing process.

Three times a day, gently clean the front and back of your piercing with a cotton swab soaked in Ear Care Antiseptic. Gently rotate your piercing earrings at least 3 times a day, ideally after you have applied your Ear Care Antiseptic.

Watch Your Back

After cleaning and before bed, check to make sure your earring back is fastened securely.

Protect Your Piercing

Avoid irritating your piercing with products such as hair spray, shampoo, soap, perfume or cosmetics. Clean your piercing and piercing studs with your Ear Care Antiseptic after using any of these products.

During cold weather, steer clear of those turtlenecks and other shirts with tight neck openings. Save them for AFTER your healing period, and choose a warm scarf instead!

For warm weather, protect your piercing from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and remember to avoid getting sunscreen in your piercing. In the event that you do, rinse with clean water and reapply your Ear Care Antiseptic.
